Bangladesh women’s will be looking to boost up their chances of directly qualifying for next year’s ODI World Cup in India when they face Ireland in this month’s three-match one-day international series at home against Ireland starting on November 27.
The second and third matches of the series will be held on November 30 and December 2, respectively. All the matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.Â
The Irish team is expected to arrive in Dhaka on Friday to take part in their first bilateral tour to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh, who are currently lying at number nine in the 10-team championship table, will have to finish among top six to book direct place in next year’s World Cup. Australia, England, India, and South Africa have already qualified for the finals.Â
BCB’s head of women’s wing and former national cricket team captain Habibul Bashar believes that playing at home will give Bangladesh an-extra advantage against their Irish opponents.Â
‘We’ve got six ODIs remaining [in this cycle]—three each against Ireland and the West Indies. These six matches are very important for us. As we begin [these six matches] at home, we’ll have an advantage,’ said Bashar during the title sponsor ceremony of the series on Wednesday.
‘But our primary target is this series’, he added.Â
Bangladesh last played an ODI series was in March this year when they suffered a 3-0 clean sweep against Australia at home.Â
Their last international outing was in the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last month, when they were eliminated from the group phase with a single win over Scotland.Â
But Bashar was still confident that Bangladesh would put on an impressive show against the Irish, as they have prepared well for the series.Â
‘We’ve been preparing for this series for a long time, as the girls have been practicing since November 1. They’ve improved. Now it’s time to see how they perform in the field,’ he said.
Beside the ODI series, Bangladesh will also play a three-match T20I series against Ireland that begins on December 5 at the Sylhet International Stadium.
The next two matches will be held at the same venue on December 7 and December 9, respectively.Â
Women’s hygiene brand Senora was named as the title sponsor for the series, while Ruchi was named as the powered by sponsor.
