Tamim Iqbal has been penalised for breaching the code of conduct of the Bangladesh Cricket Board during the match between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders in the ongoing BPL at the Sylhet International Stadium on Thursday.Â
The incident took place after Rangpur captain Nurul Hasan pulled off a cliffhanger when he hammered 30 runs in the final over to bring an improbable victory over Barishal.Â
Tamim was given one demerit point and a formal warning for his misdemeanour after he was charged with a level one offence.Â
The Barishal captain was caught on the TV broadcast camera being animated and had to be restrained by Nurul and others when he was rushing towards someone from the Rangpur camp.Â
Nurul and Nafees Iqbal from Barishal, who came to the post-match press conference, didn’t enlighten the reporters on what happened.Â
However, it was later reported that the altercation happened between Tamim and Rangpur’s English batter Alex Hales.Â
It was learnt that Tamim was angered by a gesture Hales made during the handshake. However, Hales accused Tamim of making a personal remark that he labeled ‘shameful’ in an interview with a TV channel.Â
Rangpur are yet to lose a match, as they won six out of six matches so far and are comfortably leading the point table with 12 points.Â
Barishal are currently in the second position with six points from five matches.Â
