The Dhaka Education Board on Tuesday ordered the heads of the educational institutions under it to find out what caused so many candidates not to take the ongoing Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations.

In a letter, issued on Tuesday and signed by the board鈥檚 controller of exams Professor SM Kamal Uddin Hyder, the board asked the heads of the institutions to send the information of the absent candidates within 15 working days, emphasising the matter as very urgent.


The Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations began across the country on April 10.

The number of examinees for the SSC and equivalent examinations has decreased to 19,28,181 this year from 20,24,192 in 2024 for the second consecutive year.

In 2023, the number of SSC examinees was 20,72,163.

On the first day of the SSC exams this year, 26,928 candidates were absent.聽聽聽聽

The numbers of absent candidates were 28,943 on April 15, 27,905 on April 17, 28,120 on April 21, and 27,845 on April 22.

Under Dhaka board, the numbers of absent candidates were 3,496 on April 10, 3,896 on April 15, 3,956 on April 17, 4,766 on April 21, and 3,930 on April 22.

Till Tuesday, the highest number of SSC candidates remained absent in the Dhaka board examinations out of the nine general boards.

The Dhaka Education Board letter read that the case of some candidates remaining absent in the ongoing SSC exams was alarming.

The principals or head teachers of all educational institutions under the board were instructed to send the information of the candidates who were absent in one or more exams via a Google form within next 15 days.

Some instructions were also given to the heads of the institutions, including talking with the candidates or their guardians to find out the reason for their absence.聽聽
