Filmmaker Zayed Siddiki’s short film titled Darkaak bagged the Special Jury Prize at the 10th International Film Festival of Shimla in India recently.

On the closing ceremony, the governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, handed over the awards to the winners as chief guest at the main hall of the Gaiety Theatre Complex.


Receiving the award, Zayed Siddiki told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that it’s a great honour to receive recognition for the hard work dedicated team did for the past couple of years to make the film.

‘It is always special to receive award from notable festival like IFFS in India,’ he added.

Held from August 16 to 18, the festival is organised by the Himalayan Velocity in collaboration with Department of Language and Culture, and Government of State Himachal Pradesh, and the Indian federal information and broadcasting ministry.

Based on a fiction writer Shahidul Zahir’s short story, and the screenplay and the dialogue written by Zayed Siddiki, ‘Darkaak’ portrays an elderly man, dependent on his family members, grappling with an existential crisis.

At some point, regarding an important family decision, he realises his unimportance, which leads him to withdraw from the family and become rebellious and aimless.

Jayanto Chattapadhyay has portrayed the lead role in the film. Besides, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Iqbal Hossain, Tuntuni Sobhan, Fazlul Haque, Tahua Labib Tura and ABM Saidul Haque. Jerin Akter Shimul and Akhlaquzzaman Khan have played different roles in the film.
