
The 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival 2025 will begin at the Bangladesh National Museum on Saturday.
Organised by Rainbow Film Society, the DIFF will feature 220 films from 74 countries, including 44 films from Bangladesh.
The festival will be inaugurated by information and broadcasting adviser Mohammad Nahid Islam while Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and international department director of the China film administration Shu Ya will be present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Dhaka Club on Thursday.
The DIFF director, Ahmed Muztaba Zamal, renowned actor Ilias Kanchan, filmmaker Bidhan Rebeiro, screenwriter and film critic Sadia Khalid Reeti, and the festival’s executive committee members, among others, were present at the press conference.
The press conference was presided over by the DIFF chairman Kishwar Kamal.
The festival also comprises a master class segment and a women filmmaker conference, while due to lack of budget The West Meets East Screenplay Lab eliminated from this year schedule, said Ahmed Muztaba Zamal. Â
The films will be screened under different segments, including Asian Cinema Competition, Retrospective, Wide Angle, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Section, Women Filmmakers’ Session, Short and Independent Films and Spiritual Films. Â
The films will be screened at different venues, including Main Auditorium and Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Alliance Francaise de Dhaka in Dhanmondi with North South University and Green University campus.
As part of the festival, a group art exhibition titled Perspective curated by artist Lutfa Mahmuda Akter was inaugurated on Thursday at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka.
