Bangladesh Football Federation senior-vice president and finance committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy accepted the charges of misconduct imposed on him by the adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee of FIFA and agreed to pay the fines.

Murshedy, also a lawmaker from the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, has been ordered to pay a fine of Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) for breaching the FIFA code of ethics.

He said that he never intentionally neglected any of his duties but had no way to escape the charge as he was in the responsible position of BFF.

However, he stated that he had never intentionally disregarded any of his football federation duties, but he had no alternative but to pay the fines.

‘As I’m holding a responsible position at the BFF, I cannot avoid the charges. If there is any negligence found on my part, I will have to pay the fines. But that doesn’t mean it was intentional,’ Murshedy told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday. ‘I need to sign a lot of papers. So, sometimes I have to rely on the BFF staff. Sometimes scanned signatures are also being used. So, I have no answer other than to accept the charges. Because there is a rule and that has been breached intentionally or otherwise,’ he replied to a query.

Apart from Murshedy, FIFA on Thursday also announced punitive actions against four other BFF individuals, including its former general secretary, Abu Nayeem Shohag.

Shohag, who has already been serving a two-year ban since April 14, 2023, has been handed a three-year ban afresh from May 23, 2024, and was ordered to pay a fine of Swiss Franc 20,000 (Tk 25.60 lakh) for multiple breaches of the FIFA code of ethics.

In 2023, he was fined Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) along with a ban for corruption.

‘Both [the ban and the fine] are further penalties imposed by FIFA on him [Shohag],’ stated BFF current general secretary Emran Hossain Tushar.

FIFA also banned Abu Hossain, former chief financial officer of the BFF, and Mizanur Rahman, former BFF operations manager, for two years and fined Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) each for the breaching of rules, likewise Shohag.

Another one, Imrul Hasan Sharif, procurement and store officer of the BFF, has been ordered to undergo compliance training provided by FIFA and was warned about his future conduct.

All must pay their separate penalties within the next 30 days, beginning on May 23, FIFA said.

However, BFF banned Shohag for life following his earlier sanctions by FIFA, while Abu Hossain and Mizanur Rahman resigned from the organisation soon after Shohag faced the ban.
