Tarafder Ruhul Amin, who earlier announced to contest for the president post of the October 26 Bangladesh Football Federation elections, surprised everyone by collecting paper for the position of senior vice-president on the final day of the nomination paper collection.
Tarafder, a seasoned businessman, announced his presidential candidacy on September 15 within 24 hours after the BFF’s incumbent president, Kazi Salahuddin, declared that he would not run for the fifth term as the president of the federation.
This is not the first time the managing director of Saif Power Group has made such a surprise decision; Tarafder also decided not to run for the federation’s presidency two months before the 2020 elections.
Saif Powertech official Nazmul Karim, who bought the nomination paper on behalf of Tarafder, did not disclose the reasons behind the U-turn.
There were more surprises with Mymensingh District Football Association president SM Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan and FC Brahmanbaria general secretary Shahadat Hossen collecting nomination papers for the president post.
Redwan also collected nomination paper for the vice-president post, while Shahadat collected for the executive member post.
The two-time former vice-president Tabith Awal and a grassroots level football organiser from Dinajpur, AFM Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, are the other two who collected nomination papers for the president post.
Apart from Tarafder, Narayanganj’s Murapara Sporting Club general secretary Monir Hossen collected nomination papers for the senior vice-president post on Saturday.
BFF’s current vice-president, Imrul Hassan, is the other one who has collected nomination papers for the senior vice-president post on October 9.
A total of 62 nomination papers — four for president, three for senior vice-president, 12 for vice-president, and 43 for executive member posts — were sold for the 21-member committee.
Naser Shahriar Jahedi, Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, Iqbal Hossen, Sabbir Ahmed Aref, Wahid Uddin Chowdhury, Rashid Samiul Islam, Syed Rummon Bin Wali Sabbir, SM Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan, Shafiqul Islam Manik, Satyajit Das Rupu, Misbah Ahmadbin Samad Chowdhury, and Syed Hasan Kanan collected nomination papers for vice-president posts.
A total of 133 voters will give their mandates in the elections to form a BFF executive committee comprised of one president, one senior vice-president, four vice presidents, and 15 members for the next four years.
