Bangladesh are keen to lift the trophy of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Malaysia from December 15 to December 22.

The Asian Cricket Council unveiled the schedule on Thursday, with Bangladesh being drawn in Group B alongside hosts Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are placed in Group A, along with Nepal in the six-team tournament.

The coach of the team, Sarwar Imran, expressed his confidence with the squad.

‘We have a well-organised team with a strong combination and balance,’ said Sarwar in a video provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

‘Our goal is to become champions. We will compete for the title. After the Asia Cup, we will shift our focus to the World Cup, having the same ambition for that tournament. But we will definitely play to secure the championship in the Asia Cup.’

Bangladesh are yet to announce their squad. Team selector Sajal Ahmed Chowdhury stated the final squad will be announced after preparation matches.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka on December 16 in their first group-stage match before meeting Malaysia on December 17.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Four stage, while the bottom-ranked teams will compete in a 5th-place playoff.

In the Super Four, teams will play against each of the qualifiers from the opposite group once, with the table-toppers then advancing to the final.

The final is scheduled to be held on December 22. All the games of the event will be played at Bayuemas Cricket Oval.Â
