The Federation Cup final between Abahani Limited and Bashundhara Kings was abandoned due to bad light after 105 minutes of play at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday.

With the match tied 1-1 after the stipulated 90 minutes and the first half of extra time, the referee, Symon Hossain, called off the game as per the tournament鈥檚 by-laws, leaving players visibly stunned.

The holders and three-time champions Kings went 1-0 up early in the sixth minute of the game when their Argentine forward Juan Lescano headed home the ball following a free-kick by defender Saad Uddin.

The 12-time champions Abahani equalised nine minutes later with midfielder Mohammad Ibrahim tapping the ball home from the goalmouth, connecting on a cutback from Nigerian forward Emeka Ogbugh.

Soon after the second half began, a thunderstorm swept the stadium, forcing an hour-long delay. Play resumed under poor conditions, with no floodlights and a waterlogged field.

However, the professional league committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation in its next meeting will decide the fate of the match, stated BFF through a press release after the game was abandoned.
