A 14-km road in the Haor region in Kishoreganj was painted on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh in an attempt to set a world record.

The initiative named ‘Boishakh 1431 in Alpona’ has been taken to uphold the Bengali culture of painting patterns and motifs, said a press release.

Former cultural affairs minister and lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the initiative at Mithamoin Zero Point on Friday where over 700 volunteers started painting the Alpona on the day.

The unique Alpona celebration was started on Friday at 4:00pm and ended on Saturday, with a 14km-long Alpona Drawing, from Mithamoin Zeropoint to Austagram Zeropoint, in Kishoreganj.

The street painting will be unveiled on Sunday when Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology; Iresh Zaker, Group Managing Director of Asiatic 3Sixty; and Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, visit the Alpana of Mithamoin to celebrate and inspire the imdomitable spirit of setting this unique world-record.

The organisers said this endeavour is an attempt to present Bengali culture to the world.

Asiatic Experiential Marketing Limited, Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, and Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited jointly organized the programme.
