Leaders of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) on Saturday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the government to refrain from increasing metro rail fare.

The government is going to increase the fare by imposing 15 per cent value added tax on the fare.

The SPB (Marxist) held a rally in front of the National Press Club where central leader Rashed Shahrier chaired.

Central leader of the party Manas Nandi said at the rally that the metro rail was mass transport so the fare should not increase further.

Rashed Shahrier and Susmita Roy Supti also spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession.

The fare of the metro rail services is going to be increased from July 1 this year as the National Board of Revenue has decided to impose value added tax on the services.
