
Politicians, academics and professionals on Wednesday at a discussion said that lack of good governance was responsible for the economic failure of the country and the increase of dollar price and abnormal increase of prices of essential commodities were secondary causes.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh organised the discussion on the forthcoming budget of 2024-25 fiscal year presided over by its president Mohammad Shah Alam at its central office.
Economist and CPB central leader MM Akash said that lack of good governance was responsible for the economic crisis of the country. He also blamed increase of prices of US dollar and abnormal increase of prices of essential commodities for the economic failure.
He called on the government to take steps to check looting in the economic sector and take immediate step to return the money siphoned off from the country by the looters.
Professor Tajul Islam said the government should give sufficient allocation in the health and education sectors in the forthcoming budget.
Dhaka University professor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said that the ordinary people of the country were suffering much for the abnormal price hike of the essential commodities.
The government should take extensive social safety programmes for the welfare of the ordinary people and stop corruptions in the country, Titumir said.聽
Among others, Abdul Baten, Sanjib Drang, Soma Akter, MA Sayed, Bimal Majumder, CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, and assistant general secretary Mihir Ghosh spoke at the discussion meeting.
