The Revolutionary Students Unity on Friday announced its 17-member new central committee in its 16th council session.

Dilip Roy was elected president and Jabir Ahmed Jubel the general secretary of the new committee, said a press release.


The inaugural ceremony of the RSU’s 16th national council was held on Thursday at about 12:30PM at Battala of Dhaka University.

Deepa Dutta, former assistant general secretary of the East Pakistan Students’ Union, delivered the inaugural speech.

The other members of the 17-member Central Committee include organising secretary Shakil Hossain, vice-presidents Farha Tahsin, Subho Mistri, assistant general secretary Khandakar Shahriar Alif, office  affairs secretary  Toiob Islam, political, education and cultural affairs secretary Sami Abdullah, finance secretary Nuzia Hasin Rasha, publicity and publications secretary Jashad Zakir, members Selim Hasan, Faria Islam, Sarfaraz Sanuwar, Abid Islam, and Soma Dumri.

Earlier on Thursday, the council session began after the inaugural ceremony.

At the beginning of the council session, a condolence motion was adopted and political and organisational reports of the organisation were presented.

Representatives from all over the country discussed political and organisational issues in detail and adopted an action plan to wage an effective student movement against existing Awami fascist misrule for the establishment of a democratic education system for the people, the release read.

The Newly formed committee will pay homage to martyrs of the democratic movement and take oath at the Central Shaheed Minar at 11:00am on Saturday.
