The ruling Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said that the curfew would be continued until the return of normalcy in public life in the country.

The curfew will be withdrawn after the situation comes under control, he said while addressing a press conference at the AL president’s political office in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Saturday.

He also said that the government had instructed the armed forces to aid the administration to save the lives of people and state properties and imposed a curfew.

Quader also alleged that the armed cadres of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Jamaat-e-Islami carried out massive destructive activities in the past two days across the country.

A number of people were killed and many others injured during the violence, he said.

‘They set fire to the important establishment of the state and looted the assets of country people,’ he said.
