Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha and some others political parties on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of Awami League government on charges of creating anarchies in the name of controlling students’ movement for quota reform in government services.

In a joint statement, they said that the verdict of the Appellate Division proved students’ demand justified.


They also condemned the autocratic steps of the government and repressions of the law enforcers on the students and general people that created countrywide anarchies, resulting in over 140 people dead.

In the name of controlling the movement, the government arrested some central leaders of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and thwarted communications by halting internet services, read the statement.

The opposition leaders called on the government to stop cruelty on the students and common people.

Ganatantrik Chhatra Jote, an alliance of some left student organisations, demanded immediate resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ragib Nayem, coordinator of the alliance, said that the prime minister must resign due to the killings of students and other people.

He also said that ministers, officers of law enforcement agencies involved in giving order to kill protesters should brought under trial.

He demanded immediate withdrawal of curfew, reopen of educational institutions withdrawing law enforcers from campuses and compensations for families of the killed and the injured.

It should be ensured that protestors would not be harassed in future, Ragib added.
