The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday in a statement urged the government to seek apologies to the nation for genocide and resign immediately.Â
He said that one person was killed in Habiganj in the attack of armed men of the ruling party along with the law enforcement forces during a programme of prayers and mass procession.
Fakhrul also expressed condemnation over attacks on the people in Uttara of Dhaka, Sylhet, Habiganj, Khulna, Chandpur, Laksmipur, and filing of a record number of ‘false’ cases across the country, arresting ‘innocent’ people, including opposition party leaders and activists.
He said that law enforcement forces and Awami League with its associate bodies of Chhatra League and Jubo League carried out brutal armed attacks on the programme of mass procession and prayers for the salvation of souls of the students who were killed in the ‘attack by the government’.
An innocent worker, Mushtaq Mia was killed, and many innocent people were injured in the attack by the armed men of the ruling party alongside the law enforcement agency in Habiganj, said Fakhrul
He also said that in Sylhet, law enforcement agencies fired indiscriminately injuring many people, including Daily Kalbela Sylhet correspondent Mithu Das Joy.
Fakhrul said that the government was already facing condemnation and opprobrium for its ruthless and brutal massacre of students, but it still continues its killings, attacks and torture without taking heed to the United Nations or any other bodies in country and abroad.
He also castigated the government for blacking out the social media sites, including Facebook and Telegram, to thwart today’s programme.
Ignoring the government obstacles, the spontaneous mass processions of thousands of students, teachers, and parents across the country proved that the whole country was united against the ‘killer dictator’ government today, he added.
In the statement, he expressed deep condolences over the death of Mushtaq Mia, who was killed in Habiganj, and wished speedy recovery of the injured ones in Habiganj, Sylhet, Khulna, and other places.
Fakhrul also alleged that professional body Medical Technologists Association of Bangladesh senior joint general secretary Dabir Uddin Tushar and Private University unit Chhatra Dal leader Miner Hossain were taken from their homes and kept detained at unidentified places.
He also demanded the unconditional release of arrested party leaders, activists, and students immediately.
