Locally made weapons and drugs were recovered from the room of a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader at Nawab Abdul Latif Hall of Rajshahi University on Sunday.

Students along with the hall employees recovered three sharp weapons, nine iron rods and pipes, foreign wine’s bottles, cannabis, railway line stones, subscription receipts used for extortion, identity cards of two Varendra University students, and bamboo sticks, by searching the room 206.

RU BCL Nawab Abdul Latif Hall unit vice-president Tasfiq Al Tawhid used to reside in the room.

Residential students alleged that Tawhid, who was staying at the hall illegally, used to intimidate and torture students in his room over trivial matters.

Tawhid could not be reached for his comment over the phone despite repeated attempts.

Contacted, Nawab Abdul Latif Hall provost professor AHM Mahbubur Rahman said that they would hand over the weapons and drugs to the police administration.

‘In association with police, we will also conduct drives in other suspected rooms and take legal action,’ he added.

Students, meanwhile, also seized two sacks of sharp weapons inside the trunk of a car on Saturday night and detained the car’s driver.

Later, they handed over the driver and the weapons to the army.

No army and police officials could be reached for their comments over the phone despite repeated attempts.
