A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday sent Awami League advisory council member and AL-led alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amu to jail on the completion of his six-day remand in police custody in the case of killing trader Abdul Wadud in the capital.

Another Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on the day allowed the police to take a former AL lawmaker for Barguna-1, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu, for six days for interrogation in police custody in the case of killing Abdul Wadud during the student-mass uprising in the capital鈥檚 New Market area on July 19.


Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sharifur Rahman sent former minister Amu to jail after the police had produced Amu, a former AL lawmaker for Jhalokathi-2, before the court on completion of his six-day remand in police custody.

The court passed the order allowing a police plea that sought the court鈥檚 permission to keep the senior Awami League leader in jail until the end of the investigation into the case.

On November 6, the police arrested Amu at West Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

The Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the remand order as police produced Shambhu before the court seeking a 10-day remand in police custody for interrogation in the case.

The police arrested him at Uttara in Dhaka on Monday.

A judicial magistrate court in Dhaka on Tuesday allowed the police to take AL general secretary Obaidul Quader鈥檚 personal officer Abdul Matin Hawlader in custody for three days in a case lodged over the murder of college student Riaz Hossain in the city鈥檚 Keraniganj area, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangstha reported.

Dhaka senior judicial magistrate Abdullah Mohammad Saleh passed the order when the police produced Matin before the court.

The police arrested Matin at Char Washpur village of Keraniganj Monday afternoon.

BSS also reported that a joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion and the police on Monday night arrested former Jatiya Party lawmaker for Sylhet-2 constituency Yahya Chowdhury from the capital鈥檚 Uttara.

Yahya was initially arrested in two cases, including one for attempted murder, with Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet. He was taken to Sylhet.
