Acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Tarique Rahman on Tuesday said that his party, if voted to power in next election, would form government taking those, who were oppressed during the last 17 years and ensure rights of people of different faiths.

‘If we voted to power, we will form government with the oppressed people…Ensure rights of all Bangladeshis belonging to different religions,’ he said.


Tarique made the remarks while addressing a workshop virtually on building the state structure in view of the 31-point demands at a convention centre in Satkhira district town. BNP central training affairs committee organised the event.

He said that the 31-point of demands had been prepared in consultation with the BNP’s political alliance comprising different parties.

‘BNP is not only a party of Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman or Khaleda Zia or any individual rather it is the party of all who are present here [workshop] and the leaders and activists of BNP across the country.’

Tarique directed the party leaders and activists to reach the 31-point demands of BNP to the doorsteps of people across the country before the upcoming general election. 

The senior BNP leader has pledged to build railway line in Satkhira district alongside providing financial support cards, if elected to power, to the women members of a family so that they can continue their children’s study and treatment.

BNP chairperson’s adviser and former secretary Md Ismail Zabiullah, central publication secretary and former lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib, training affairs secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain, central members Shahidul Alam and Kazi Alauddin, members of the central training committee Atiqur Rahman Rumon, former lawmaker Rehena Akhter Ranu and Mahmuda Habiba were present, among others.

With Satkhira district BNP convener advocate Syed Iftekhar Ali in chair, Satkhira district BNP joint convener and formal general secretary Sheikh Tarikul Hasan, member secretary Abdul Alim, former central president of the Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal Fazlur Rahman Khokon and former general secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamal were also present on the occasion.
