The Election Commission has extended the voter list updating deadline till April 27 for those whose data could not be collected or dropped from the latest updating process.

‘More importantly, the process to be a voter through online will continue all time,’ election commission senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed said at a press briefing on primary data collected for updating the voter list at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka on Tuesday.

He said that their field-level officials collected data on 49,70,388 people, who were eligible to be voters, till Monday of the door-to-door data collection campaign that started on January 20 simultaneously in the country.

‘Those whose data were collected will be listed as voters on completion of the registration process,’ he said.

Besides, the data of deceased 15,23,000 voters were collected and their names would be dropped out from the final voter list, the EC official shared.

He said that they earlier set a target of registering 61,00,000 people as new voters that year

Revealing the statistics of data collection, Akhtar Ahmed said that the voter growth rate was 3.9 per cent. Of them, the exclusion rate had increased by 2.44 per cent and the registration rate saw an increase by 1.45 per cent.

Akhtar Ahmed said that the number of deceased voters was lower that time than that of three years’ voter list updating programme.

He said that it would be known later upon talking to the field-level officials why such a thing happened.
