The Jatiya Party on Monday alleged that the dissenting voices were being suppressed and fictitious cases were being lodged in the name of Operation Devil Hunt.

The party chairman, Ghulam Muhamad Quader, made the allegation in a statement on Monday.

He alleged that the law enforcement agencies were harassing the Jatiya Party leaders and activists and lodging ‘false cases’ against them.

Now, new cases are being filed and Jatiya Party leaders and activists are being harassed during the countrywide Operation Devil Hunt, he said and added that many leaders of his party in Gazipur were accused in a fictitious case on Sunday.

He condemned and protested at such incidents of lodging fictitious cases.

GM Quader urged the government to stop such activities and not to harass innocent people.

The government on February 8 announced to launch Operation Devil Hunt against the backdrop of Friday’s violent attack on students and people, who were active in July-August mass uprising, in Gazipur Friday night. The incident left 15 students injured.

Hundreds of people, mostly leaders and activists of the Awami League, were arrested on Sunday and Monday in the police-led joint forces operation.
