Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance on Monday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the interim government to hold the next general election as early as possible.

LDA, a combine of six left political parties, organised the rally in front of the National Press Club.


Coordinator of the combine and general secretary of Revolutionary Communist League Iqbal Kabir Jahid chaired the rally.

He said that for the democratic transition of the country, the main responsibility of the interim government was holding a free, fair and credible general election as early as possible.聽

He also called on the interim government to announce the roadmap for holding the next general elections.

Assistant general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh Mihir Ghosh called on the interim government to take immediate steps to control abnormal price hikes of the essential commodities before the holy Ramadan.

Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz demanded the publication of a white paper on the performances of the interim government in the past six months.

SPB (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana said that the people of the country were eagerly waiting for the democratic transition of the country.

Bangladesher Samajtantrik Party executive president Abdul Ali said that the interim government had failed to fulfil aspirations of the people of the country and sprits of the July-August mass uprising.

Democratic Revolutionary Party central leader Shahidul Islam Sabuj called on the interim government to take steps to control law and order of the country.

Conducted by Revolutionary Communist League central leader Nazrul Islam, the rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
