The Ganatantrik Odhikar Committee, a platform working for democratic rights and freedom of expression, on Sunday expressed its concern over failure of the interim government to control the law and order situation in the country.

In a press statement, the platform member and former Jahangirnagar University professor, Anu Muhammad, said that the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus had failed to control the law and order situation of the country as extra judicial killings, robberies, sexual harassment of women increased.


He demanded an independent investigation into the recent clash between locals and the Bangladesh Air Force members reportedly over the construction of an airbase on khas land in the Samitipara area in Cox鈥檚 Bazar that left one killed.

He called on the interim government to take immediate steps to control the law and order situation and ensure safety of the people.

He also urged the government to ensure safety of the students of different educational institutions keeping peace for studies.

The platform also condemned the Chittagong University authorities for expelling nine female students for protesting against mob violence and supporting disgraceful behaviour of the proctor towards the female students.
