At least eight people were injured, including one bullet-hit, in a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Nationalist Party over occupation of a compressed natural gas-run vehicle stand at Ishwardi in Pabna on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Dashuria intersection in the upazila.

The bullet-hit injured, Monowarul Islam, vice-president of the Dashuria Union BNP, was taken to Rajshahi Medical College hospital in a critical condition.

People of the area said that Ripon Pramanik, joint convener of the Ishwardi Upazila Juba Dal, and his brother, Raku Pramanik, were extorting money by occupying the vehicle stand.

In this regard, they had a dispute with the Dashuria Union Juba Dal leader Bipul Mollah.

The two groups clashed on Friday, and again clashed on Sunday, leaving eight BNP activists, including Monowarul Islam, injured in the clash, said Ishwardi police station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam.

Monowarul was first taken to Pabna General Hospital, and as his conditioned deteriorated, he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

‘We are looking into the matter. Law and order situation is normal in the area as additional police have been deployed there,’ the OC added.

Raku Pramanik and Bipul Molla could not be reached for comment regarding this matter.
