Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a coalition of six political parties, on Thursday staged a protest rally in Dhaka demanding an immediate end to Israeli aggression in Palestine.

They also urged the international community to speak out in defence of the Palestinian people.

The rally, held in front of the National Press Club, was presided over by Tania Rob, senior vice-president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.

Tania Rob condemned the Israeli military’s ongoing ‘barbaric attacks’ on unarmed Palestinians and called on both the global community and Muslim countries to raise their voices against the killings and pressure Israel to cease its actions.

Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna called on the United Nations to play a more effective role in ending the attacks.

Saiful Huq, general secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party, said that Israel was continuing its assault in defiance of international condemnation.

Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, convener of Bhashani Onusari Parishad and coordinator of the alliance, demanded the formation of an independent Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip.

Monir Uddin Pappu, central leader of Ganosamhati Andolan, urged the interim government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, to take a stronger stance to help end the war.

Abu Yusuf Selim, member secretary of Bhashani Onusari Parishad, conducted the rally.

The event concluded with a protest procession that marched through various city roads.
