Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami nayeb-e-ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher on Saturday urged politicians to remain cautious so that the freedom achieved through the July-August uprising would not fail like the previous achievements.

In his introductory speech at the dialogue between Jamaat and the National Consensus Commission, held on Jatiya Sangsad premises, he said people of this land became independent in 1947 but could not enjoy freedom.

‘In 1971, after a long struggle, fight and war, and after sacrificing many lives, we achieved independence, but we were not truly free. Through the July-August revolution, we have gained a second independence or a new Bangladesh, but how truly free we have become — only time will say,’ Taher said.

He was leading a seven-member Jamaat team in the dialogue, chaired by NCC vice-chair Professor Ali Riaz.Â
