The number of active mobile internet connections in the country continued to increase for the fourth consecutive month in May, according to the data published by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.

The number of active mobile internet connections in May increased by 27 lakh to reach 12.78 crore connections compared with that of 12.51 crore in April.


From January till May, the total number of active mobile internet connections increased by 1.15 crore.

Before February, the total number of active mobile internet connections gradually decreased for six months from August 2023 to January 2024.

The total number of active mobile users in the country has been rising steadily from January 2023 to May 2024, where the number was 18.08 crore in January 2023.

According to the data, the number of broadband internet connections remained the same in May compared to March and April.

The number of total broadband connections in May stood at 1.34 crore.

The number of broadband connections in the country last saw an increase in March, by 6 lakh, reaching 1.34 crore in that month.

Before March, the total number of broadband connections in the country stood fixed at 1.28 crore in the previous three months.

According to the BTRC data, all four telecom operators, Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, Banglalink and Teletalk, saw an increase in their connections in May.

In May, Robi Axiata gained about 3 lakh active mobile connections, elevating the number up to 5.88 crore compared with that of 5.85 crore in April.

Banglalink experienced a slight rise in its active mobile connections in May, gaining about 10,000 users, raising the number to 4.47 crore.

Grameenphone recorded a rise, according to the BTRC data, by gaining about 10 lakh connections, letting the number reach 8.49 crore in May compared with that of 8.39 crore in April.

State-owned telecom operator Teletalk also experienced a slight growth in its active connections as it gained about 20,000 connections in May.

The total number of active mobile users in the country in May stood at 19.50 crore, an increase by 13 lakh, compared with that of the previous month.
