The students of theatre and performance studies department of Dhaka University staged two shows of the play titled ‘Ophelia Machine’ at Natmandal of the university on Friday.

The play has been translated, adapted and directed by assistant professor of the department Somaiya Moni. Besides, Naved Rahman and Tanvir Nahid Khan are assistant directors of the production.

‘Ophelia Machine’ is an answer to another postmodern play titled ‘Hamletmachine’ by Heiner Müller.

‘Ophelia Machine’ discusses about love, sex, porn and politics in the fragmented world of confused emotions, global and virtual sexuality.

The play revolves around Ophelia, an author who writes with a typewriter and weaves her own stories narrating scenes of interactions among Hamlet, Gertrude and Horitio.

The play projects the contemporary reality of relationships, love and power by employing satires, jokes and caricatures.

Ashiqur Rahman Leeon designed the stage while Tanvir Nahid Khan and Dhiman Chandra Barman jointly designed the stage lighting and Wahida Mollick designed the costume for the play.

Naveed Rahman composed the background music for the play while Shahman Moishan was the dramaturge of the play.
