A Dhaka court on Friday placed three suspects on five-day remand in police custody in the case filed over the murder of ruling Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shanto Islam Mollick passed the order on Friday after the police produced them before the court with another eight-day remand prayer, said a court official.


Three arrested are Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, his associate Tanvir Bhuiyan, and Celesty Rahman.

Earlier on May 24, they were placed on eight-day remand in connection with the murder.

They were arrested in the case field by Anwarul’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin with the Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police on May 22.

Meanwhile, Indian daily Anandabazar Patrika reported on Friday that the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department had formed a special investigation team to investigate the murder considering it as ‘high profile’.

The report said that the team was conducting investigations in different areas along the India-Nepal border to nab Siam, another accused in this murder case, and find out the whereabouts of Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, alleged mastermind of the murder.

Quoting CID sources, Anandabazar Patrika said that the initial forensic report on the recovered body parts would come early next week. After that the DNA sample matching process would begin.

On the night of May 28, the Kolkata CID recovered some human body parts from the sewerage line of a New Town flat at Sanjeeva Garden, where ruling Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar was allegedly killed.

The police reportedly recovered some hair, bone and flesh from the sewerage line of Sanjeeva Garden.

A team of three detectives led by DB chief Harun-or-Rashid went to Kolkata on May 26 for further investigation into the murder and returned to Dhaka on Thursday.

DB chief Harun on Thursday said that the team gathered crucial evidence and hoped that the motive of the murder would be revealed soon.

Four people have been arrested so far in Bangladesh and one in India over the murder.

Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar went to India for medical treatment on May 11 and went missing since May 14.

On May 22, Kolkata detectives confirmed that the Bangladeshi lawmaker was murdered.
