A four-member team of Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday left Dhaka for Nepal to investigate the murder of the ruling Awami League lawmaker for Jhenaidah-4, Anwarul Azim Anar, who was allegedly murdered in India’s West Bengal.
The team left for Nepal after the media reported that Siam Hossain, one of the key suspects in the murder of the lawmaker was detained in Nepal.
While departing Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the morning, DMP DB chief Harun-or-Rashid told reporters that they heard that Siam and other Bangladeshi suspects in the murder were staying in Nepal and using the route of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu for fleeing to other countries.
‘We have seen that the mastermind behind killing of the lawmaker, Akteruzzaman Shahin, went to a foreign country using Nepal as a route….We are going to Nepal for the sake of investigation,’ Harun said, adding that they are going to establish a connection with the Kathmandu police.
Harun, who is leading the detective team, said that they informed Nepal police through giving letters to Interpol from the Police Headquarters that Siam and other suspects were either in Nepal or in another country.
Asked about the media reports claiming suspect Siam was arrested in Nepal, Harun said, ‘I cannot say anything right now. We are going for an investigation.’
Representatives of National Central Bureaus also accompanied the team.
The NCBs are at the heart of Interpol that cooperates on cross-border investigations, operations, and arrests.
