Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday placed deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq on a 10-day remand in a case filed with the New Market police station over the killing of hawker Shahjahan Ali.
Metropolitan magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order after the New Market police station produced them before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation.
Salman and Anisul were taken to the CMM court in the presence of huge army personnel and Border Guard Bangladesh in the evening.Â

Salman and Anisul were arrested on Tuesday evening in the capital’s Sadarghat Launch Terminal area when they were fleeing using the river route.
After their arrest, they were kept in the custody of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch.
Shahjahan’s mother, Ayesha Begum, filed a murder case against unnamed people on July 17, a day after her son was killed as students locked in a clash with police and Awami League supporters.Â
In the court area on Wednesday, people and lawyers brought out broom processions and hit vehicles with shoes on the court premises.
Many people outside the court area also protested, demanding the punishment of Salman and Anisul.
On January 15, 2019, Beximco Group vice-chairman Salman F Rahman was appointed as the prime minister’s private industry and investment adviser.
Anisul Huq was law minister of the government of Sheikh Hasina for three terms—2014, 2018, and 2024—after he was appointed as law minister for the first time on January 9, 2014.
Awami League people are now on the run to avoid arrests and mob beatings after the fall of the government of Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amid a mass uprising led by students.
Both Anisul and Salman, close aides to Sheikh Hasina, who has fled to India, went into hiding like many others after the forced resignation of the long-time ruler.Â
Over 500 people were killed and several thousand were injured in violence between July and August as students accused police of mass killing during their quota reform movement.
