The government on Wednesday appointed professor ASM Amanullah as the vice-chancellor of National University.

The education ministry issued a circular in this regard on the day.


An education ministry circular reads that, following the approval of the president and chancellor and as per the National University Act, 1992, Dhaka University鈥檚 sociology professor ASM Amanullah was appointed as the vice-chancellor of National University, Gazipur.

According to the circular, the duration of his appointment will be four years from the day of his joining and he will get salary and other benefits as per his present post.

The circular said that the he would get other facilities as per the rules and he would stay on the campus always as the chief executive officer, the circular.

It said that the president and chancellor could cancel this appointment anytime, if necessary.

Professor Amanullah did his BSS Honours and Masters in sociology from Dhaka University and obtained a PhD in social sciences (medical sociology) from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

He has published more than 100 scholarly articles, books, chapters, conference papers and research reports at home and abroad.

So far, he worked on more than 50 research projects as principal investigator.

He is the founder of public health department at ASA University, Bangladesh.

Besides Dhaka University, ASM Amanullah taught at the University of New South Wales, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, North South University, and Independent University.
