The vice-chancellors of National University and Jagannath University resigned on Sunday.

With this resignation, a total of 11 public university vice-chancellors stepped down after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 amid mass uprising led by students.


On Sunday, Jagannath University registrar, proctor and the proctorial body and Jahangirnagar University pro-vice-chancellor also resigned from their posts.

National University vice-chancellor professor Md Mashiur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· over the phone that he had submitted his resignation letter at noon.

‘I am in Dhaka now and already joined my workplace at Dhaka University,’ he added.

He is a professor of sociology department of Dhaka University. He was appointed National University vice-chancellor on May 30, 2021.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jagannath University reported that vice-chancellor professor Sadeka Halim, proctor professor Jahangir Hossain, and the entire proctorial body have submitted their resignation letters to the acting registrar professor Aynul Islam on the day.

Aynul Islam said that he also resigned from his position as registrar.

Earlier on the day, JnU students had issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding the resignation of the VC, registrar, proctorial body, and hall provost.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jahangirnagar University reported that the university’s pro-vice-chancellor for academic affairs professor Mohammad Mostofa Feeroz submitted his resignation letter on the day.

He could not be reached over phone for comments.

The principal of Government Titumir College in Dhaka, professor Ferdous Ara Begum submitted resignation on Sunday also following students’ demand, confirmed a senior official of the college.

Till Sunday, the vice-chancellors of Dhaka University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka, Islamic University in Kushtia, Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail, National University in Gazipur and Jagannath University in Dhaka resigned from their posts.

Around 90 senior officials of the 11 universities also resigned so far.
