At least 14 expensive cars of the controversial S Alam Group have been shifted from its warehouse in Chattogram’s Mozzertek area allegedly with the help of local Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders.
A video went viral on social media that showed 14 expensive private transports including BMW, Mercedes and Range Rover were being shifted from S Alam Group’s warehouse midnight past Thursday.
In the video three persons, Enamul Haq Enam, joint convener of South zila BNP of Chattogram, Ohidul Alam Chowdhury Piblo, member of Patiya upazila Juba Dal and Sheikh M Hossain Nayon, joint convener of Chattogram South Zila Chhatra Dal were seen on the spot.
The BNP in a press conference on Saturday, however, denied its involvement in the act.
Abu Sufiyan, convener of Chattogram South Zila BNP, in a written statement said that the allegation of involvement of the three BNP leaders was fake and intentional.
Sufiyan claimed that on Thursday night, some people informed that a group of people asked ransom over phone from the Mir Group office located in the Kalurghat area.
‘Three to four people went there to investigate the news as Mir group officials sought help from us regarding the incident,’ he said.
He also said that DBC news telecast the news of their involvement in the matter intentionally to ruin BNP’s political image.
‘We strongly protest at the news and no BNP leaders had any involvement in this regard,’ he added.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday said that the agency launched an investigation against S ALAM Group chairman and managing director Mohammed Saiful Alam, his wife and two sons for laundering Tk 1,13,245 crore under the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.
