The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Thursday imposed a permanent travel ban on former managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority Taqsem A Khan over allegations of corruption.
Judge Md Jakir Hossain passed the order allowing a petition submitted by Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Syed Nazrul Islam seeking a permanent travel ban.
The ACC mentioned in its petition that the commission was conducting an inquiry into allegations of corruption and plundering of crores of money amassed through illegal appointments against Taqsem and others.
The ACC also said that Taqsem A Khan was trying to flee the country, and that was why the ACC filed the petition seeking the travel ban.
Earlier on August 22, the same court imposed a 60-day travel embargo on Taqsem.
Taqsem was first appointed as the MD and chief executive officer of Dhaka WASA in 2009. But his term was extended a couple of times despite allegations of gross misconduct and graft.
Finally, Taqsem鈥檚 term was extended for another three years in August 2023, but he resigned from his post after the fall of the Awami League government amid the student-led mass uprising.
