DMP spokesperson Muhamamd Talebur Rahman said that Uttara East police station OC Habibur Rahman was closed on Friday over the incident.

Uttara East police station OC Habibur Rahman said that several DMP teams, including the detective branch and cyber unit, all police stations across the country, the Rapid Action Battalion and the Bangladesh Army were working to arrest Shah Alam.

‘We have arrested him in Kusthia and took him into our custody midnight past Wednesday and he fled from the police station at about 12:10pm on Thursday,’ Habibur added.

He said that the former OC fled from the police station when he was taken outside the custody for producing him before a court.

Asked about allegations of negligence as the former OC fled from his room, OC Habibur denied it and said that when he was taken into a prison van, OC Shah Alam asked if he could use the toilet.

‘Police allowed him to go to the toilet and he fled from the washroom,’ the OC added.

He said that police would arrest him as soon as possible.

Shah Alam joined as OC of Uttara East police station on August 2 in past year and he fled from the police station on August 5 following the fall of the Awami League government amid a student-led mass uprising.
