The authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday upheld its previous decision to ban student politics on the campus amid a tense situation over Tuesday鈥檚 clash between Bangladesh Nationalist Party鈥檚 student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Students Against Discrimination.

The decision was made at the 98th syndicate meeting amid protests by the students on the campus with six-point demands, including the ban on politics and the resignation of vice-chancellor and giving treatment costs of all students wounded in the clash that had left over 100 injured.


The authorities also decided to expel students for lifetime and cancel their studentship for engaging in politics and no employees, officials and teachers will be allowed to participate in politics, KUET pro-vice chancellor professor Sk Shariful Alam told 抖阴精品 on Wednesday.

鈥楨arlier, the student politics on the campus was banned at another syndicate meeting held on August 11, 2024 amid students鈥 demand following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government. There was no provision regarding punishment for violation and now punishment has also been decided,鈥 said Shariful, adding that banning officials, employees and teachers from participating in politics was also made at Wednesday鈥檚 meeting.

KUET also suspended all academic activities till February 28.

A four-member probe committee was also formed to investigate the incident of clash and the committee was asked to submit its report within three working days.

Khan Jahan Ali police station officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain said that no case was filed so far in this connection.

鈥楾o my knowledge, at least 30 people were injured in the attack,鈥 he added.

Juba Dal Khulna district鈥檚 Daulatpur Thana unit vice-president Mahbubur Rahman was expelled from the organisation as his activities went against the organisation鈥檚 discipline, said a press release.

The JCD and the Students Against Discrimination which led the July mass uprising forcing the fall of Sheikh Hasina regime, traded blames.

At a press conference on the Dhaka University campus on Wednesday, JCD central leaders alleged that the attack and clashes at KUET took place under the monitoring of Students Against Discrimination convener Hasnat Abdullah and leadership of KUET unit convener Omar Faruq, 抖阴精品 DU correspondent reported.

Blaming Hasnat Abullah for the attack, JCD general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir sought an explanation on Tuesday鈥檚 attack from the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Islami Chhatra Shibir president Zahidul Islam has criticised the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, stating that they were taking the wrong path, the United News of Bangladesh reported.

His remark came in response to the student clashes at KUET.
