At least six more rape incidents came to light on Thursday, as three adolescent girls at Mugda and two children at Khilgaon in the capital Dhaka were allegedly raped amid a rise in violence against women and children in the country in recent weeks.

Apart from the five at Mugda and Khilgaon, a 22-year-old girl was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Thursday morning as she was reportedly raped on October 10, 2024, said Hatirjheel police station officer-in-charge Raju Ahmed.


He said that a case was filed with the police station over the incident on Tuesday.

‘We are trying to arrest the accused,’ the OC added.

At Mugda, three separate cases were filed and accused were arrested, according to police.

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour named Jabbar after iftar in the capital’s Mugda area, said Mugda police station sub-inspector Al-Amin. She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Thursday morning.

The police official said that another 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by neighbour Pintu Chandra Das, 28, on the rooftop of a house. She was also admitted to the DMCH Thursday morning.

He said that they had arrested accused and were sent to jail through a Dhaka court on Thursday.

A 15-year-old girl was admitted to the DMCH Thursday morning. She was allegedly raped by Siam Ahmed, 18, on Tuesday in Mugda area.

Mugda police station sub-inspector Tawhidul Islam said that they had arrested accused Siam and a rape case was filed in this connection on Thursday.

A 15-year-old girl was admitted to the DMCH for examination Thursday morning as she was abducted on February 23 from Khilgaon area, said Khilgaon police station sub-inspector Elias Mahmud.

‘We have sent the victim to the DMCH for examination on suspicion of rape during her abduction period,’ the SI added.

In another incident, an 11-year-old girl was admitted to the DMCH Thursday morning as she was allegedly raped by an individual named Al-Amin in the capital’s Khilgaon area.

Khilgaon police station sub-inspector Moshrraf Hossain said that they had arrested the accused Al-Amin.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Sirajganj reported that a man named Hazi Abdus Salam, 65, was arrested by police on Thursday over allegations of attempting to rape a nine-year-old Madrassah student in Kamarpara area under Belkuchi municipality in the district.

Belkuchi police station officer-in-charge Zakaria Hossain said that local people detained Salam from the spot and handed him over to police.

A case was filed against him over the allegation, the OC added.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested an individual named Rakib Mia from Bhairab Wednesday night on allegations of threatening to kill a housewife after rape at Raipura in Narsingdi, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Narsingdi reported.

RAB-11 deputy director Sadman Ibne Alam disclosed the information at a press conference at RAB-11 Narsingdi camp on Thursday.
