A trawler carrying 33 passengers from Myanmar arrived at St Martins Island in Bangladesh early Friday.
Among them, 31 are Rohingyas and two are Myanmar Border Guard Police members who said that they boarded the trawler from the Maungdaw area of ​​Myanmar.
Subedar Sanwar Hossain, in-charge of Border Guard Bangladesh on St Martins Island, said that 33 people arrived at the island on a trawler and, later, they were taken into custody by the BGB.
Teknaf upazila nirbahi officer Adnan Chowdhury said that he also heard the news.
The chairman of St Martins union council, Mujibur Rahman, said he learnt that that a trawler carrying 33 people, including two armed members of the BGP,  reached St Martins island from Myanmar’s Maungdaw area during bad weather.
They had been escorted to a resort on the island’s north beach by the BGB, he added.
Nurul Amin, a resident of St Martins island who works at the beach under the district administration, said that the area witnessed heavy rainfall the past night.
He learnt that people fleeing the turbulent situation in Maungdaw area in Myanmar got on several trawlers to cross the sea and one of the trawlers arrived at St Martins Island...Â
