
At least 11 people, including three children, were killed in three separate road accidents in three districts on Friday.
At least six people, including three children, were killed and four others were injured when a speeding bus rammed into three vehicles waiting in a queue at the Dhaleswari toll plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway in Munshiganj on Friday.
In Dhaka and Pabna five people were killed and five others were injured in two separate road accidents on the day.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that a speeding Bepari Paribahan bus hit three vehicles — a car, a motorcycle and a microbus which slowed down to pay toll at the plaza at about 11am.
The deceased are Amena Akhter, 45, wife of Md Iqbal from Nandankona area at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj, Amena’s daughters Ishrat Jahan, 26, and Rihamoni, 11, Aiyaz, 2, daughter of Md Shohag from Zurain at Kadamtoli in Dhaka, Reshma Akhter, 32, wife of Md Shumon Mia from Hatirjheel area in Dhaka and Reshma’s son Md Abdullah, 7.
Amena, her two daughters and Aiyaz were in the car, said Hashara highway thana officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Jilani.
He mentioned that Abdullah and his mother were on the motorcycle which was driven by Abdullah’s father.
Sreenagar fire service station officer Dewan Azad said that three died on the spot.
Abdul Kader said that two others died after they were rushed to the Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in the capital Dhaka.
Reshma’s father Md Malek Fakir told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that in critical condition his daughter and son-in-law were rushed to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation where Reshma died.
Hashara highway thana officer-in-charge also said that four other were injured in the incident and they were trying to arrest the bus driver.
He said that they seized the bus and the filing of a case in this connection was underway.
In the capital Dhaka, two unidentified people, including a woman, died when a covered van hit them while they were crossing the road at Kutubkhali area at Jatrabari at about 2:00pm, said Jatrabari police station inspector (investigation) Md Mohsin Hossain.
The driver fled the scene with the covered van, he said.
A passer-by, Mohammad Alif, said that when the two were rushed to the Mitford Hospital, the on-duty doctors declared the woman dead.
‘When the man’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead at about 4:30pm,’ he said.
The bodies were kept at the Mitford Hospital and DMCH, inspector Mohsin said.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Pabna reported that three agricultural workers were killed and five others injured when as a goods-laden truck hit a three-wheeler, locally known as Nasimon, on the Santhia-Madhpur road at Santhia upazila in Pabna at about 5.30am.
The deceased are Khokon Islam, 27, son of Altaf of Rangamati village at Sathia upazila, Dhani Pramanik, 50, son of Nazimuddin of Chondoh village, and Russel Ahmed, 27, son of Sayed from the same village.
Santhia police station inspector (investigation) Abdul Latif said that the truck ran over the three-wheeler which was parked on the side of the road, killing three people on the spot.
Locals rushed the injured to the Pabna General Hospital in critical condition. The truck was seized, but the driver and his assistant fled.
