A lawyer of the Supreme Court on Tuesday sent legal notices to the officials concerned for giving Tk 1,00,00,000 to the families of each victim of the accident at Dhaleshwari toll plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway on December 27, where six people were killed.
Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab sent the notices on behalf of rights group Law and Life Foundation to officials concerned, including chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and additional inspector general of police of highway police.
Six people were killed and five others injured as a speedy bus of Bepari Paribahan rammed a private car, a motorcycle and a microbus as those were waiting in line to pay the toll at the toll plaza at about 11:00am.
“It was found in the primary investigation that the bus had no updated fitness certificate, even the driving license of the bus driver was expired. Driver confessed before the court that he has been taking drugs like cannabis. It is very clear that those six people were killed in the accident because of the extreme negligence of the authorities in charge of updating fitness and license,’ the legal notice said.
According to the notice, the owner of the bus also took an extremely illegal decision by bringing that unfit vehicle on the road and giving its charge to a driver who had no legal driving license. Therefore, this accident is the result of everyone’s mutual negligence.
