The government has decided to recruit an additional 2,000 doctors through the ongoing recruitment process of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
The decision was made at a meeting of the advisory council of the interim government, held at the Chief Adviser Office at Tejgaon in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
After the meeting, adviser to the environment, forest, and climate change ministry Syeda Rizwana Hasan came up with the information at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Rizwana, also water resources adviser, said that the PSC was currently in the process of recruiting 3,493 doctors while the government had decided to recruit another 2,000 doctors through the process.
Regarding the decision, the key goal is to ensure adequate medical services in rural areas where people often lack access to healthcare, she said.
She also mentioned that two countries were currently supplying liquefied natural gas to Bangladesh under long-term agreements.
However, recently adviser to the power, energy, and mineral resources ministry Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan visited Saudi Arabia and held discussions with officials of state-owned oil and gas company Aramco.
As a result, Aramco has agreed to supply LNG to Bangladesh at a lower price than the market rate, Rizwana said at the briefing.
She also observed that the rate of implementation of the decisions made by the advisory council was commendable.
Out of the 135 decisions made by the advisory council of the interim government, 92 have been successfully implemented, with an implementation rate of 68.16 per cent, Rizwana said.
At the meeting, the advisory council also decided to change the names of two institutions. These involve the amendment ordinances for the Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust Act and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheater Act.
The names will now be simplified, for example, the Novotheater Act will now be referred to as the Novotheater (Amendment) Ordinance, Rizwana said.
The council also agreed to set global standards for the regulation of saturated fat content in food products.
