
Emergency services at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation were suspended for hours on Monday following a clash between the hospital鈥檚 staff and victims of the July-August mass uprising.
During the clash that broke out at after 12:00 noon, the emergency service department and administration block were vandalised, leading to the suspension of emergency services at the hospital.
Several people were also injured in the clash.
The hospital director, Abul Kenan, told 抖阴精品 at about 8:20pm that one of the protesters beat a staff of the blood bank section of the hospital after the staff had a slight bump with them at about 11:00pm on Sunday.
鈥極ver this issue, the hospital staff went on strike and staged a protest at the hospital at about 12:00 noon. At one point, a clash broke out, leading to vandalism in the emergency department and administrative block. Treatment was disrupted as many staff members and doctors fled the area due to the vandalism,鈥 he said.
鈥楲ater I held a meeting with both the parties in the presence of the army and resolved the 鈥渕isunderstanding鈥 between the parties,鈥 the director said.
鈥楢n investigation committee will be formed regarding the matter. Also, a joint drive by the army and police will be conducted at the hospital against various allegations of corruption at the hospital,鈥 said the director.聽聽
Emergency services at the hospital resumed at about 6:00pm, he said.
An injured person named Rana Hossain told 抖阴精品 at about 4:52pm that a victim of the mass uprising had been raising his voice against corruption in blood sales at the hospital for the past few days.
He said, 鈥楾he issue began with an argument between several hospital staff over the corruption issue today, which escalated into a scuffle, resulting in the victim getting hurt. While things seemed to settle down, the situation took another turn when a few staff members attacked the injured from behind as they were returning to their wards.鈥
Rana said that at least four people, including three victims of the July-August uprising that ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024, were injured in the clash.
He added that a group of outsiders with rods and sticks entered the hospital, vandalising the emergency department and administrative building.
Upon receiving this information, the other victims of the mass uprising came to the hospital, after which the outsiders fled, he added.
