Leaders and activists of Awami League on Friday morning brought out two protest processions at Jatrabari and Uttara in Dhaka city, demanding interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to resign.

In Jatrabari on the city’s southern border, 40–50 Awami League leaders and activists led by the party’s Jatrabari Thana unit general secretary Harunur Rashid Munna brought out a procession in the morning demanding the chief adviser’s resignation. Video footage of the procession was shared from the verified official Facebook pages of Bangladesh Awami League and banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League.

An AL Dhaka south city unit leader told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that since their party was not banned they had the right to hold processions.

He, however, claimed that they staged the procession on their own and had no directive from the party high-ups for holding processions or other programmes.

In Uttara in the city’s northern periphery, about 100 people under the banner of Awami League in Dhaka-18 constituency brought out a procession with the same demand for the chief adviser’s resignation in the morning, video clips of which were shared on the AL and banned BCL Facebook pages.

Airport police officer-in-charge Taslima Akter said that AL men brought out a flash procession at about 6:20am for not more than three minutes.

‘We are trying to identify them for taking necessary action,’ the OC added.

The Yunus-led interim government assumed power on August 8, 2024, three days after the autocratic regime of Awami League had fallen and Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India on August 5, 2024 amid a student-led mass uprising.
