Independent University, Bangladesh has welcomed the Bengali New Year 1432 through various events at its campus of Bashundhara in Dhaka.

Organised by the Division of Student Activities, the celebration included cultural performances, traditional fair and a two-day theatre festival, said a press release on Thursday.


The Baishakhi Fair took place in April 13–15, while theatre festival was held in April 13–14.

The theatre festival began with the IUB Theatre’s production titled Taser Desh. The festival featured Jahangirnagar Theatre’s ‘Dwitiya Mrityur Aage’, Teerondaz Repertory’s ‘Kanthanalite Surja’ and BotTala’s ‘Khana’ at the IUB Auditorium.

Cultural performances by the IUB Music Club and IUB Dance Club were held on April 14. The IUB Arts Club led the decoration efforts, covering the campus with motifs, painted artwork, and Baishakhi-themed installations. The Independent Photography Club was the photography and videography partner for the event.

Chairman of the IUB’s board of trustees Didar A Husain, vice-chancellor Professor M Tamim and pro-VC Professor Daniel W Lund formally inaugurated the event. Ashraful Amin, director of council affairs, and Atif M Safi, head of DoSA, were also present on the inaugural day.
