A female officer of Rupali Bank has accused its deputy general manager of the bank's headquarters' IT systems department in Dhaka, Md Kawser Mustafiz, of sexual harassment.
She recently filed a written complaint with the managing director of the bank, seeking redress.
According to the complaint, Mustafiz had been making inappropriate propositions to the female officer since her joining at the workplace. When she did not respond, Mustafiz resorted to verbal abuse, made offensive comments about her appearance and attire, and got engaged in various forms of harassment.
Mustafiz’s unethical, vulgar, and offensive behaviour caused his female colleague to become ill, read the complaint.
On the advice of several colleagues, the female officer decided to file a formal complaint.
The female bank officer told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, ‘I informed the senior officials but received no redress. Hence, I lodged a complaint. I want justice according to the organization's law.’
On the advice of her colleagues, she decided to file a formal complaint. ‘I informed the senior officials of the bank but received no remedy. So, I lodged a complaint. I want justice according to the organisation’s law’, she told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Sensing her intentions, Mustafiz summoned her to a private room and threatened her, warning that filing a complaint would ruin her reputation, she added.
She demanded exemplary punishment for Mustafiz to deter future misconduct.
‘In the beginning, I worked at the same department of the bank with Mustafiz. Later, I took a transfer to escape him’, she further said.Â
In response to her complaint, Rupali Bank officials stated that the authorities had formed a two-member investigation committee.
However, the female officer expressed concerns about the impartiality of the investigation, noting that typically, the accused would be temporarily suspended, but he had been allowed to remain in his position.
Contacted, Mustafiz denied the allegation and claimed himself innocent.
He claimed that the female officer was transferred from the head office to a branch office and had made various allegations against him since then.
However, he declined to comment further as the investigation was ongoing.
