The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday cancelled seats at residence halls of those students involved with the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Following a complaint from BUET students requesting the cancellation of more than fifty students’ seats, the BUET administration issued letters to the students informing them of the decision.
BUET’s director of student welfare Mohammad Al Amin Siddique, stated that the seats of the accused were cancelled to maintain peace and order at the residence halls.
The exact number, however, is yet to be confirmed, he added.
BUET students mentioned that they had centrally filed complaints against more than fifty individuals.
‘In addition to these, some other seats involving individuals against whom we did not lodge central complaints have also been cancelled,’ the director said.
Meanwhile, BUET students on Wednesday did not attend classes for the 2nd consecutive day.
Earlier, the students decided to boycott classes and exams until visible action was taken against those accused of being involved with Chhatra League’s politics.
A BUET student, wishing not to be named, said, ‘We will hold a meeting tonight and then make further decisions.’
BUET vice-chancellor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, however, declined to comment on the issue.
The director of student welfare, meanwhile, urged the students to return to the classes.
