Home adviser retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday requested all to hold meetings and rallies at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh crossing considering people’s sufferings.

‘The suffering of the people will be reduced if meetings are held at Suhrawardy Udyan. So, I request all to hold the programmes at the Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh,’ Jahangir was quoted in a home ministry press release issued hours after the third meeting of the advisers on law and order at the secretariat.

The home adviser said that holding programmes on streets and roads created chaos and traffic congestion and people from all walks of life had to suffer for that.

He said that Bishwa Ijtema would be held in January next year, but the date was yet to be fixed.

The release said that the meeting also asked the law enforcement agencies to arrest the released listed miscreants if they were found involved in criminal activities.

The meeting of the advisers on law and order also discussed improvement of the law and order, security arrangements over Bishwa Ijtema, overall measures to prevent militancy and extremism, and drives against illegal arms.

Members of the committee on law and order were present at the meeting presided over by the home adviser.
