Four associations of Rajshahi University’s officers and employees on Sunday urged the university authorities to take action against Salahuddin Ammar, a leader of the Student Movement Against Discrimination, reportedly for his ‘derogatory’ remarks about them and their children over the ward quota in admission.
They submitted a written application to the university vice-chancellor, professor Saleh Hasan Naqib, in this regard on Sunday noon.
The four associations are RU Officers’ Samity, Sahayak Karmachari Samiti, Paribahan Technical Samiti, and General Karmachari Union.
The application said that Salahuddin Ammar, a student of the islamic studies department, made derogatory remarks on university teachers, officials, employees and their children, which is very shameful, defamatory and dishonourable for all of them.
In the application, the associations’ leaders also threatened a tougher movement if the university authorities failed to take any action against Ammar.
Earlier, after the university authorities had decided to retain the ward quota for the children and grandchildren of teachers, officials, and employees in admission, Salahuddin Ammar in a Facebook live issued an ultimatum to the university authorities asking them to cancel the ward quota within the next 48 hours.
‘If you [university teachers, officials, and employees] have a child with no spine, you may give him the physically-challenged quota, or if you think your child is a transgender person, you may introduce the transgender quota. But we will never accept the ward quota,’ he said during the live.
Contacted, RU vice-chancellor professor Saleh Hasan Nakib said that he forwarded the application to the registrar for his suggestions.
‘We will take action in accordance with what the registrar suggests,’ he added.
