
The Awami League could not enforce its countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Tuesday.
The party, which was ousted from power amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024, on January 28 announced the hartal demanding the resignation of chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
No interruption in running educational institutions, financial and business establishments, and transport was reported.
The Awami League and its associated organisations, however, brought out brief torch processions in a few districts and cities with a handful number of people early Tuesday. The districts and cities include Dhaka, Gopalganj, Chattogram, Narayanganj, Bogura and Patuakhali.
On January 28, the party on its official Facebook Page announced a month-long programme including the hartal for February 18 protesting against the attack on religious and national minorities, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, the arrest of several thousand AL leaders and activists, and murders and enforced disappearances, and demanding the resignation of Professor Yunus and the release of all political prisoners.
The month-long programmes included distributing leaflets from February 1 to February 5, protest rallies and processions on February 6 and February 10 and road blockade on February 16.
Several grassroots-level AL leaders told 抖阴精品 that they could not take to the streets for only one reason 鈥 killing students and people by opening fire during the mass uprising.
